Privacy Policy
This policy explains how 9Video handles your data: what leaves your machine, what stays on it, and why. Last updated: 7 September 2026.
API keys you provide yourself (LLM, Pexels...)
9Video is a "bring your own key" (BYO key) application. The key for the LLM service (so AI can write scripts), Pexels (for finding background video/images), and other optional services (ElevenLabs, Unsplash) are entered by you, directly, on the Settings screen.
- Keys are encrypted using the operating system's secure storage mechanism (Electron
safeStorage) and written to a file right on your machine — not on 9Video's servers. - When you use that key, the app calls the corresponding service directly from your machine; 9Video does not sit in between, does not copy, and does not retain the content of that request or response on its own servers.
- Deleting a key in Settings immediately removes that encrypted copy from your machine. Removing the app (dragging it to the Trash) does not — the key file remains in the application data folder (
~/Library/Application Support/nine-video-desktop/secrets.bin.json); to delete it for good, you need to delete that folder yourself.
Signing in with Google
Starting with version 0.13.0, signing in with a Google account is required to use 9Video. When you sign in, we receive from Google: the email, display name, and profile picture attached to that account — we never receive your Google password. This information, along with your plan (free/paid) and your answers to the first-run survey (if you fill it in), is stored on 9Video's servers, tied to your account.
Telemetry data sent to the server
The app sends exactly three product telemetry events to the 9Video server, tied to your signed-in account:
- Script created — with no other content attached.
- Video exported successfully — with no other content attached.
- Error building a video — with only the error type name attached (for example
EngineError), never the error message content, because that message often contains file paths on your machine (your home folder, machine name, export path).
Beyond these three events, 9Video never sends your script, voiceover text, search keywords, footage, or the video itself to the server, in any form.
Where your videos, drafts, and assets live
Rendered videos, script drafts, and downloaded assets (video/images) all live in the application data folder on your machine. There is no feature that syncs or backs up this data to 9Video's servers or any cloud service.
The email you leave on the website
9video.co has a field for leaving your email (for example, to receive update or feature-launch notifications). This email is stored so 9Video can contact you about the product. If you later sign into the app with that same email, this record is linked to your account so we know you've become a user. To have an email you left removed, contact us at the address under Contact below.
Sharing with third parties
9Video does not sell your data. Data only goes to:
- Google — for sign-in authentication.
- Services you connect your own key to (LLM provider, Pexels, ElevenLabs, Unsplash...) — receiving exactly what's needed to carry out your request, under that service's own policy.
- The technical infrastructure that runs the 9Video servers (account storage, sending product emails).
Your rights
You can request to view, correct, or delete the account data (email, name, profile picture, telemetry history) that 9Video stores on its servers, by contacting the address below. Data on your machine — videos, drafts, assets, API keys — is controlled entirely by you: delete it directly in the app or delete the application data folder.
Changes to this policy
